Life Village Puts Solar-powered energy into Developing Nation Communities
- Jennings Carney | 07.08.2010 | 09:53:19531 |
July 2010: Solar Energy company Envision Solar's CEO Robert Noble, told Greentech Media his vision for a line of pre-fab buildings built in places where the infrastructure and services are lacking. Noble said his Life Village project would help that goal. "Just as mobile phones have leapfrogged land line phones in developing nations, this model can leapfrog centralized power production."- The idea would be to design and build prefabricated homes with solar energy systems built into the structure to provide energy immediately. Noble told Greentech Media customers for his Life Village idea could include non-profit organizations already working in Africa and Haiti. Other organizations could include governments and corporations operating in "security zones" with a need to power their "command and control centers". Greentech wrote, "In solar expert Jigar Shah's view, countries like Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya and South Africa (with support from the World Bank, OPEC, ADB and Export Import Banks) are ready to install massive amounts of solar, but are held back by the lack of expertise in those nations. Envision Solar's products could change that." Video: here.
